An Installation made for a performance by
Jem Finer, Andrew Kötting
Visionary Landscapes was originally a performance piece that I made with Jem Finer at Cecil Sharp House in May 2003. The live soundtrack accompanied a 3 screen projection of Super 8 outtakes from my feature length experimental documentary : G a l l i v a n t.
This version is a reworked original diptych that we then performed live at the ICA in January 2004. It contains studio versions of the soundscapes plus one live track featuring Ben Woolford, (Gallivant’s producer), playing his late father’s home-made valve-driven electronic organ. Visionary Landscapes The Installation is designed to play as a single channel work in a dark space and on a loop.
“Cut-ups and smidgeons abound. Jem Finer and Andrew
Kötting have assembled a veritable bricolage of things folk laureate.
Voices from a bygone zeitgeist weave their way throughout the
beautifully constructed soundscapes. Elegiac, beguiling and always
haunting the image compositions wend their merry
way. Hurdy gurdies, zithers, melodicas and
harmoniums transport the viewer to places they have not been before.
Contemplative sonic imagescaping at its very best. ” El Rino Records.
