THE PEFECT SPOT

Helen and Leslie arrive over brow of hill with picnic hamper. Stand and look out. Throughout the following they slowly sink into the cliff till they disappear.

Helen:

This looks like a perfect spot!
Yes its perfect. (maybe takes out a checkered picnic cloth that flaps and cracks  in the winds. This could be the one thing left at the end – almost marking the spot like a flag?)
AS BECKETT TRACE
Perfect. Just the ticket. It could not be any better. Its got everything we could possibly want hasn’t it.
Who could want for more!
 Idyllic one could say.
Arent we lucky!
Arent we lucky to find such a perfect spot!
 And all to ourselves!
WE’RE SO LUCKY
AREN’T WE LUCKY
YES WE’RE LUCKY
Its got everything – its got the … the… you know the  (gestures to the view)
And the smell of the … (voice trails off)
- and the screeching of the  -….
And not another … in sight
Just perfect.
Ahh

PAUSE
I was wondering…What an earth happened to the  - you know – you remember the…
THE DAY MARK – LIGHT HOUSE
(gestures with her hands miming out a shape – maybe the sun or sea shore or tree – something no longer present OR maybe all scenes with the women sinking and talking are interspersed with other scenes??? Of what? a  halcyon archive of moments of country picnics, seaside walks etc or moments like the ice flow shot from Sea Swallowed.. the world falling apart, trees falling, glaciers crackin…. OR THE TWO WOMEN AT THE END OF SEA SWALLOW’D GAMBLING AT THE WATERS EDGE PUTTING ON MAKE UP

Leslie interrupts with FACT – I THINK THAT WE CAN AFFORD TO BE VERY OBTUSE AND FRAGMENTED WITH THE ‘FACTS’

Helen:

But this – this is great, you really could not wish for a better spot. Salt and peppers a hard boiled egg

………… more stuff as women sink ………………………..
Much later – early evening time and the women both ¾ submerged by now. There arms are pinned into their sides so they can no longer partake of the picnic that surrounds them.
Helen: I mean sometimes I wonder if we should have been more careful…
I mean its not that I feel responsible personally exactly –
I mean …. we didn’t know did we?
I mean its not like its our fault. I’m not saying that.
PAUSE
I just wonder if maybe I could you know have been more careful…..
Tears streaming down Leslies face
Anyway – lets look on the bright side
Could be worse!
I mean worse things happen at….
I mean you have to keep your chin up
Best foot forward
Ha ha.
………… more stuff as women sink ………………………..
Leslie gone, Helen still just visible
Chin up. Yes. Good. Anyway weren’t we lucky to have such a perfect spot. It really was perfect wasn’t it.  OR
