I have spent a lot of my adult life living in a remote part of the French Pyrenees and found myself one evening with my arms inside a cow that was trying to give birth. It was a memorable evening and on that same night I started to read Emile Zola’s La Terre. Upon returning to London I was determined to make a film that used the novel as a catalyst and focus and decided to call it  This Filthy Earth (Cette Sale Terre).

I worked together with Sean Lock (Smart Alek) on the script for a whole year and eventually with the determination of the producer Ben Woolford (Smart Alek and Gallivant), got the film made up in the North Yorkshire Dales.

I collaborated with a remarkable cast that included Rebecca Palmer, Shane Atwool, Demelza Randall, Tchili, Dudley Sutton and Ina Clough.

The berserk and the Boschian were my compass.
